1.
2.Minutes of Previous meeting: Agreed
3.Matters Arising: Loose ends regarding the fund raising small picture show were raised and the pros and cons regarding an open day debated, including the notion of using the full half-term week. Too many problems were raised and it was decided to dispense with an open day and make a greater effort with advertising.
It was confirmed that the small pictures would remain anonymous and string was not essential for exhibiting (although desirable for selling). Arrangements for hanging are in hand.
Some members felt that more should be made of an earlier idea that the gallery could be full of small pictures with the public being involved. Those concerned were invited to present the idea again at a later date if it seemed practical.
Suggestions re poster will be passed on to Anja.
4.Christmas
a.Charity suggestions.
We will again produce Christmas tree decorations.
Details will be emailed later in the week. A lower limit of £3.00 was set (smaller/cheaper items should be packed in 2’s or 3’s and sold at £3.00). More expensive items must be v. clearly labelled but NO NAMES please… Watch out for full details.
Two Charities are be considered. Bedford Food Bank (as last year) and The Women’s Refuge - details of which Carol will investigate.
b.Opening times
Normal hours weekdays.
Definitely Sundays 17th and 24th, 11.00 until 4.00
(Sunday 10th will depend on the Bookshop being open).
5.Housekeeping
There has been a spate of forgetfulness….
A Board left out
End of Day function on card machine neglected.
Cash left on desk
The plastic wallet of notes left out on the small desk!
Please, please take care to follow the End of Day instructions – if you have forgotten them, there is a copy in the black book in the office and also on the induction sheet, also in the book.
Or make a check-list for yourself.
6. Open Studios
Although the response from members as a whole has been muted so far there is sufficient enthusiasm to pursue the idea.
Mike, Jo Spyropoulos and Annabel have volunteered to join a discussion group (Jane and Jill Taylor added their names at the meeting).
Value of members working in small groups was flagged up along with searching for some larger venues and there was some support for the month of June. Other suggestions will be taken on by the group.
Les will arrange group discussion.
In the meantime, email if you are at all interested – the more the better.
6.2018 Calendar
A draft calendar has been sent out. Few changes are envisaged but we are awaiting confirmation from some members of their allotted one- week show dates.
Jenny Leslie had intended sharing the July slot with Sarah but is now having to leave the gallery.
If anyone wishes to share the slot with Sarah please let Les know ASAP.
The first themed show next year will on the Environment. If you can think of a good title, let Les know.
Decision made to hang on Friday, February 2nd, allowing for an opening event on the Saturday.
A suggestion to use the late July and August exhibitions for opposing ‘themes’, with members submitting two pieces for only one the sessions was accepted. This would give our visitors a little more variety.
Possibility of Representation/Abstraction, perhaps with some explanatory text. This will be confirmed within the next two months.
A suggest of ‘Art with Attitude’ will be added to the theme list for future consideration.
7.Open forum
The question of allowing guests to attend Artists talks during one- week shows was clarified as being up to individual artist/artists concerned.
Thank-you to Carol and Val for organising refreshments and to Jane for her surprise plate of cookies.
Next general Meeting will be Sunday, December 3rd at 2.30
