Martin is self taught and came to painting after a career in education in England and Zambia.
He prefers to paint in watercolour, obstinately enjoying the constraints of this most fluid of media – as well as the excitement that comes from exploring its potential.
His work is stylistically varied, sometimes using traditional techniques to describe the landscape but often taking a more experimental approach. Martin is particularly interested in marine, coastal and architectural subjects, drawing on travels in this country and abroad.
Back in the studio, making each painting is a way of revisiting a significant place, recapturing the attached emotion and finding a way of getting that down in the paint.
Martin’s work has been shown at a number of galleries in the UK and at the Business design Centre, London. He has participated in Open Studio events in Bedforshire, Buckinghamshire and in Northamptonshire and in several local festivals.
He was a finalist in the International Artist of the Year competition in 2001.
