Jill Taylor graduated from Jacob Kramer College in Leeds before moving to study Fine Art at the Academie Minerva in the Netherlands. For the last 16 years she has been a practising artist and returned to the UK over ten years ago, now working and living in Ampthill.
“For as long as I can remember, the use of symbols has been a constant feature in my paintings. I like to work in bold colour and mixed media employing rough texture to add a primitive feel. It’s about being there in front of the paintings, eyes and hands searching the surface for hidden forces which open up and reveal their identity as they materialise”
Jill’s new series of work delves further into the exploration of her emotions. Each hand-drawn canvas deals with the monopoly of feelings by frustration and control. The confinement of energy before, followed eventually by a long-awaited release, results in images enhanced with texture and rich colours. Opportunities for enjoyment, expression and exploration of the medium arise in a spontaneous and energetic way. Visual inspiration comes from her love of the texture and colour found in these Italian buildings and landscapes. “The new paintings have been influenced by my recent trip to Italy. The lifestyle and the culture have given me a new found confidence and freedom in the approach to my recent work”
