Originally from Manchester, Steven Barrett is a creative illustrator and designer now based in Bedford. His original passion for sketching led Steven to foster a highly individual style which he expresses in his current designs.
More recently, Steven has applied his creative background to producing Wired Bonsai, a range of individually hand-crafted Bonsai trees shaped from aluminium wire and incorporated into a variety of bases. Taking inspiration from the timeless beauty found in Japan's revered practise of Bonsai, he has developed a method for recreating the delicate details and intricate nature of these little trees into unique, one-of-a-kind works of art.
Combining a stunning mix of form and nature, the art of Bonsai trees has captivated Steven for years. He recently turned this passion into a creative effort, resulting in a unique range of individually shaped Bonsai tree sculptures.
Crafted from lightweight, sustainable aluminium wire, each tree sculpture is incorporated into a variety of bases reflecting the traditional mediums of Bonsai art. In keeping with the style of Bonsai trees, no two sculptures are ever the same: varying in shape, size, colour and setting. Steven aims to capture the symbolism behind Bonsai trees with this series, reflecting the core principles at the heart of Zen Buddhism of balance and harmony.
