I came to pottery through evening classes, whilst working as a research scientist and have recently retired from science to focus on ceramics. My passion is making wheel thrown pots, feeling the soft clay take shape under the touch of my fingers. I prefer to work in white stoneware clays and porcelain with the addition of slips and underglazes to create colourful and gently textured surfaces. The shapes of my pots and the decoration are drawn, in part, from years of doodling while trying to solve scientific challenges. Many of these designs were originally inspired by nature as I am also a keen gardener and hiker.
