Sue Melville

Sue Melville has exhibited in galleries throughout Bedfordshire for several years, in both solo and mixed shows. She took up painting at art school and studied for 3 years at the Royal Academy Schools in London. Sue has two commissioned paintings hanging in the Kings Norton Library, Cranfield University and currently shares a studio with several artists in Ampthill.

Speaking of her practice she quotes ‘Painting for me is a reflective experience and needs to be spontaneous and considered at the same time’. I can start off being excited about a painting but that initial energy and excitement has to be harnessed and contemplated otherwise the essence of what I want to achieve can be lost. The paintings grow organically. Her inspiration comes from the local landscape as well as trips abroad. Her work often follows themes. She enjoys working on a large scale and her paintings always have colour as a major element.
