Martin Mathews

Martin is self taught and came to painting after a career in education. He prefers to paint in watercolour, obstinately enjoying the constraints of this most fluid of media - as well as the excitement that comes from exploring its potential.

His work is stylistically varied, sometimes using traditional techniques to describe the landscape but often taking a more experimental approach. Martin is particularly interested in marine, coastal and architectural subjects, drawing on travels in this country and abroad.

His work has been shown at a number of galleries in the UK and at the Business Design Centre, London. He has participated in Open Studio events in Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire and in several local festivals.

Martin will undertake commissions that appeal to him and is happy to work from photographs. Visitors are welcome to visit his studio near Bedford by arrangement
