Lucas Witte-Vermeulen

I’m not a realist painter in the traditional sense, nor are my paintings photographic. My subjects whilst existing in the real world, they are not “real” representations of what the naked eye would see. I try to show everything clearly and let the eye wander over the painting picking up parts to view, everything in focus. The same way I might look at something in the world, feasting my eyes, examining everything, every detail. I also execute plein air paintings capturing fleeting moments in oil paint. Essentially, my paintings spring from the traditional, embracing past and present, endeavouring to portray my version of reality.
