In generating her work, Gerry Ewens employs acrylic paint both on and off the canvas. The finished article carries no greater meaning than the physicality of the paint surface. It is up to the viewer to construct meaning and bring their own understanding and vision to the art. In place of a complex narrative, Gerry’s work instead exposes a visceral tension and movement that strikes to the heart of the medium.
Gerry began her career as a graphic designer, working in Bedford and London. She studied Art Foundation at North Herts College, going on to gain a Fine Art BA Hons from the University of Hertfordshire. Her work has been exhibited in a number of London galleries, including Highgate Gallery and The Mall Gallery. In addition, The Courtyard in Hertford and Mount House in Marlborough Wilts have also featured her work. Gerry has completed a number of commissions, including paintings that currently hang in VIP suites of Heathrow Terminals 1 & 5.
Gerry has lived with her family in Bedford since 2002 and has a studio at Emmaus in Village Carlton. As a member of the Eagle Gallery and the Bedfordshire Artist’s Network, she regularly contributes to art in the local community. Gerry is also the Artist in Residence for PLACE Bedford Home Educators and the Queen’s Park Lower School voluntary Artist in Residence.
