David Oversby-PowellI was born in Devon in 1947 and educated in Surrey and Scotland where his Art Teacher was Richard Demarco. Apart from a year’s pre-diploma course in Luton, he is self-taught.

He started to paint Bedfordshire landscapes in the late 1970s, which led to two very successful one-man exhibitions and a number of commissions. Following 11 years in the Lake District, He returned to Bedford in 2001 and resumed painting the local scenery. Having painted in acrylics and watercolour, David now paints almost exclusively in oils.

David paints a broad range of subjects including still life, animals and portraits but his first love is landscapes especially those featuring water. He has made a speciality of the countryside and villages along the River Great Ouse and its tributaries, scenery he feels has much in common with that painted by Constable and Edward Seago. He has found an abundance of unspoilt local beauty simply by going a few yards off the beaten track.

His favourite approach is to work on site whenever possible to try to capture the atmosphere. This usually means working on a fairly small canvas boards. If there are people or animals in his paintings it is invariably because they were there at the time.
