The gallery is scheduled to re-open for its Christmas show on Saturday 5th December and will be open Tuesdays - Saturdays 10.30 - 4.30 until December 24th.
Due to a second lockdown we are now closed again and hope to re-open when we are allowed. We will keep you posted on the web site.
Join us, Cecilia Gatehouse and Jill Taylor, at the Eagle Gallery, Bedford, for our joint exhibition Inside/Outside.
We will show new work made during 2020 when we started to see inside and outside in a very different way. Cecilia makes wall sculpture using wire as a drawing medium. Her pieces are mostly figurative taking her images from life drawing, photographs and her own imagination, as well as from shapes and patterns in the natural world. She sometimes backs the 'wire drawings' with pieces of painted and stitched fabrics and incorporates beads, buttons and lace to achieve substance, colour, and texture. Jill is an abstract painter who begins by playing and experimenting. She works with shapes, colour and rough texture until they reveal surprises. "I let the paintings speak to me whilst working on them until suddenly there comes a point where I take control, but keep the energy and freedom that I experienced at the beginning." In this series of paintings she has abstracted her feelings and impressions from earlier this year. "So much changed in March 2020. I came to cherish freedom outside." The exhibition will be open Wednesdays to Saturdays between 11th and 21st November, from 11 am till 4.30 pm. We will both be attending throughout the exhibition and would love to meet you, but in these difficult times we hope you will understand the need to put unusual measures in place that are aimed at your safety and comfort. * Social Distance We have decided to have maximum of 5 visitors in the gallery at a time with 2m social distance. If needed we will operate a queuing system with a one way in and one way out *Hand sanitisers & Hygiene Visitors will be asked to sanitise their hands on entering and exiting the show. Display surfaces will be sanitised at regular intervals. *Face Coverings All visitors are required to wear a face covering. If you would like to book a time slot for a personal appointment to see the exhibition by yourself or with a group of friends please contact jill@jtstudios.co.uk or info@ceciliagatehouse.co.uk From October 17th, we plan to open on Saturdays from 10.30 - 4.30.
With Mike's One man show a matter of weeks away, here is a teaser of what to expect:-
Most of the work in this show is new but some is from my previous one man show at the Castle Road Eagle Gallery in 2017 ‘Trying to Make Sense of it All’ There are dry-point etchings and block-prints, acrylic paintings and a few drawings. A range of cards based on the paintings will also be available. The paintings can be loosely divided into two categories. Most are largely based on drawings completed in my sketchbooks of Cornish Harbours and could be described as semi-abstract. The ‘Covid’ series has been completed during Lockdown. The paintings make no conscious effort to refer to anything in particular but express my response to Lockdown and the Pandemic. The drawings are based on shapes derived from objects in my studio and from elements from my paintings that hang in there. The self-portrait drawing is an expression of my on-going struggle with hearing loss. The dry-point etchings are based on drawings and paintings that I have completed over time. Through my work I explore various themes and ideas which slowly evolve. Mike Townesend In readiness for his upcoming one man show, we have a new selection of work for his web site page.
