Carla Sealey is an Applied Artist working in glass, ceramics and precious metal jewellery. Based in one of the Almshouse studios at Artworks MK in Milton Keynes, she also runs workshops at Milton Keynes and teaches jewellery making classes in Bedfordshire.
Boldly coloured fused and cast glass contrasts with cool delicate porcelain vessels and finely textured silver jewellery.
Whether working in glass, ceramics or metal Carla’s work shares common themes in her use of textile techniques to impart texture to her work and the creation of pieces composed of multiples.
Having made jewellery for over 25 years and dabbled in pottery since school, Carla started working with glass about eight years ago.
‘As an Applied Artist I enjoy being able to work with a range of materials and techniques.
With clay and metal it’s nice to be able to make work that responds in your hands as you work, allowing designs to develop in hours rather than weeks. Experiments work, fail or throw up new directions before your eyes.
Working with glass gives me the opportunity to push the technical boundaries of casting and fusing glass to create pieces that explore the social, cultural and physical boundaries that influence our lives.’
