Colour is an essential part of my life and is mostly what inspires me to be creative. I am always interested in exploring the different emotive effects created by juxtaposing different colours and shapes. My work is mostly abstract and is often sparked off by random visual prompts.
I like using acrylics as they produce such vibrant colours. I also work with other media, such as collage and photography. I use PhotoShop as a tool to experiment with imagery and sometimes use the results as a basis for my paintings.
I did a foundation course at Byam Shaw School of Art and Drawing in London and after moving to Bedfordshire in 1992, I did an art history degree. But my visual awareness has probably been heightened by working as a picture researcher (sourcing photographs for books and other media) for over 20 years. Looking at so many photographs on a daily basis has, I think, made me more aware of form and composition, as well as colour.
